Aside from yours truly, there are plenty of opportunities in Basel for English-speaking theater enthusiasts to enjoy a good drama. Have a look at a few of the options listed below.

Semi Circle Basel puts on two productions each year, one in the spring and the other in the autumn. The 2015 autumn production is coming up in November: four short plays from authors that include the likes of Woody Allen (My Apology). Over at Nadelberg in Basel’s historic university quarter, the Gay Beggars will be presenting their own evening of shorts: Take Five – 5 Short Plays by David Ives. The group do have a website, but for up-to-date information on performances you would do better to have a look at their Facebook page.

Combining music with text is a discipline dear to our heart, and that is exactly what’s on the menu in TEST, a rock opera coming to Basel in February 2016. Produced by Happyville Productions, the opera tackles modern themes such as genetic engineering and cloning. Christmas may seem far away but the Basel English Panto Group is already preparing their production of Young King Arthur, written and directed by Richard Brown. If you have talent in the areas of makeup, lights, and costumes (or possess other useful theater skill sets) then get in touch or else simply enjoy the show as an audience member.

Finally, have a look at Upstart Entertainment, a Basel theater company that specializes in niche productions. Founded by Andrew Fernandes and Nicolaia Marston, the company has now been around for fifteen years and has presented a host of plays and musical featuring locally-based talent.
